The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c
may only have been available for two months, but that’s not going to stop us
looking ahead to what Apple might have up its sleeve for next year. We’ve
already been treated to a bunch of iPhone 6 concepts to accompany the early
rumors pertaining the next Cupertino smartphone, and a series of renders
recently offered by designer Iskander Utebayev feature an interesting
three-sided display.
The concept puts quick
launch icons on the side display along with controls for the music player. The
rest of the phone keeps the current form factor and design of the Apple iPhone
5s. While amazing as this looks, even if Samsung pulls this out of its hat
in 2014, Apple is apparently more concerned with increasing the size of the
glass on the next iPhone. Just the other day, word leaked out that Apple was
working on a 4.9 inch version of its iconic smartphone, for next year. That
isn't the first report that we've seen about a larger screened iPhone heading
for consumers in 2014.
Though most reports about
the iPhone 6 mention a larger screen, IBTimes doubts Apple will release an
iPhone with a larger screen in 2014. Rumors of larger-screen iPhones are
nothing new; in fact, Apple experiments with iPhone prototypes of all shapes
and sizes, so while the reports of a larger iPhone prototype may be accurate,
this in no way means Apple actually plans to release such a phone, especially
in 2014.
Apple has several patents
for curved screen designs for the iPhone, but news companies
like Bloomberg believes Apple will actually release these
technologies in time for the iPhone 6. According to “a person familiar
with the plans,” Apple will release the iPhone 6 “with glass that curves
downward at the edges,” and again reiterated the iPhone’s possible 4.7-inch and
5.5-inch screen sizes.
The iPhone 6 will launch in
a number of different storage capacities, although rumour has it the company
will scrap the 16GB version and offer the device with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB
capacities. We expect the iPhone 6 to be the top-level iPhone and as such,
it will probably have a flagship price. It’s thought the device will be
released in 2014 but there’s no word on exactly when that will be as yet.
